Hollywood Demons Review (2025) | Investigation Discovery’s Popcorn True Crime Series

Updated: Apr 11

The Hollywood demons show poster. Stephen Collins face inside a red star along with the title of the show and broadcast information.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 – Solid but not earth-shattering

The Premise:

In this Hollywood Demons review, we’re looking at Investigation Discovery’s latest docuseries digging into true crime stories from the glamorous (and occasionally grimy) world of Hollywood. It’s all about actors, child stars, and fame-adjacent weirdness turning dark — because apparently the Hollywood Walk of Fame could double as a crime scene map.

New episodes drop every Monday — which, frankly, is rude. Let me binge like an adult with poor impulse control.

Season 1 Covers:

  • Stephen Collins, America's Dad – The 7th Heaven actor’s dark fall after a disturbing recording surfaces.

  • Child Stars Gone Violent – Ex-kid actors Brian Bonsall & Dee Jay Daniels talk about life after child stardom… and its criminal detours.

  • Dark Side of the Power Rangers – Behind the karate kicks and color-coded spandex? Scandal and tragedy.

  • Housewives Gone Bad – Real Housewives drama turns criminal, with Taylor Armstrong speaking out.

  • The Real Iron Claw – The Von Erich wrestling family story: tragedy, loss, and surviving the so-called curse.

  • Stalking the Stars – Celebs like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber deal with terrifying stalkers.

What Works:

This series lets interviewees tell the story — no traditional narrator in sight. Instead, Dr. Drew Pinsky (playing his usual role as America's Pop Culture Psychologist) and culture writer Sccachi Koul pop in to keep things moving and add commentary.

The editing is smooth, the pacing is mostly good, and the use of reenactments and B-roll never feels cheesy or distracting (a rare treat in this genre). Plus, because it’s about actors, there’s a ton of vintage footage and behind-the-scenes material to work with — which helps keep things lively.

What Kinda Doesn’t:

The structure works best when an episode focuses on one person (like the Stephen Collins episode). But once multiple stories get crammed into an hour (Child Stars Gone Violent, Power Rangers), it starts to feel like a true crime sampler platter — heavy on drama, light on breathing room.

Dr. Drew does his usual “I didn’t interview these people but here’s what I think might be going on” thing. Sccachi Koul provides good pop culture context without talking down to the audience.

My biggest pet peeve (and this goes for most true crime docs)? LABEL YOUR INTERVIEWEES EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY APPEAR. Some of us have memory issues. Some of us are folding laundry. Some of us are just nosy but easily distracted. I beg of you, doc creators — don’t make me work this hard.

Also — this show loves tossing around the idea of a “curse” anytime tragedy clusters around a cast. But statistically? That’s just life, baby. Get 100 people together long enough, and bad stuff is gonna happen. Doesn’t mean it’s cursed. It means it’s Tuesday.

Is Hollywood Demons on ID Worth Watching? My Review:

Hollywood Demons isn’t deep investigative journalism — it’s more like a sleek retelling of Hollywood messiness, dressed up with good editing and solid interviews. There’s no shocking revelations or big breaking news here, but it’s a well-produced series that’s easy to watch.

If you’re into true crime stories with a Hollywood twist (and you don’t mind a little pop psychology guesswork), it’s worth a look. Just don’t expect to walk away changed — or even terribly haunted.

This is solid, snackable true crime TV. You’ll watch it, have a few “oh dang” moments, maybe text a friend about it, and then forget all about it by next week. It’s popcorn true crime: light, crunchy, and probably gone before you realize you finished it.

Final Rating: 3.5 / 5

Solid but not earth-shattering. Worth a watch — probably not worth a rewatch..
